How To's
Euro Amber Turn Mod
This is how
I converted my tails into a european set up where the turn signal is seperate
from the brake/running lights. I performed this on a 1st gen neon, I dont
know if the wire colors are the same on a second gen. You will need to
add another socket or use your reverse light hole at your own risk. I
have standard altezzas and there was room in the reverse section for another
socket. You can do this mod on a stock taillight too. There is a space
next to the reverse plug on the edge of the white strip to drill a hole
and add a socket.
TEST ALL
WIRES WITH A VOLTMETER TO SEE IF YOU HAVE THE RIGHT WIRE BEFORE CUTTING/SPLICING!
First what
you need to do is use a hole saw and drill a 1-1/8 hole in the location
where you want your socket. Go to the auto parts store and pick up the
metal round sockets and two 1157 amber bulbs, I used the APC xenon ones
they are brighter.
You will
need to slightly mod the socket. take both wires that are coming out of
it and butt connect them together in one end of a butt connecter. Solder
another wire to the socket body. Do this to both sockets.
Take the
wire that is soldered to the socket body and ground it inside the trunk.
Now take
some wire and connect it to the butt connecters coming out of the sockets,
run both wires under trunk carpeting, under back seat, under moldings
to the drivers door sill.
Pop up drivers
door sill, there should be a mess of wires under it. Locate the dark green
with red stripe wire and the brown with red stripe wires and cut them.
Tape up the ends going toward the front of the car. Strip the ends of
the wires going toward the rear of the car, butt connect them together
in one end of a butt connector. Locate the white with tan stripe wire
and cut it, strip both ends and put them in the other end of the butt
connector.
Now your
turn signal should not light up your tail lights anymore but you will
still have brake and tail lights.
Run your
new turn signal wires under all the plastic to underneith the drivers
knee plate.
Locate the
thin light green wire. Cut it and insert one end of it and the new left
turn wire into one end of a butt connecter.
Insert the
other cut wire into the other end of the butt connector.
Locate the
thin tan wire. Cut it and insert one end of it with the new right turn
wire into one end of a butt connector.
Insert the
other cut wire into the other end of the butt connecter.
Now turn
on your hazards and check to see if all your turn signals are working.
Including your new turn lights. Turn off hazards and check each signal
direction to check if you accidentally got any wires reversed.
Button everything
back up and you are done!!
