is the org dying?
Neons.org is talking about charging members for different levels of membership ( like silver, gold, and platinum) to help sustain the forum.
My jaw fell to the floor when I read this. I have been a member there since 04 and I have seen things come and go. At one time it was the pinnacle of
neon creativity. Members on the site were doing things with 4cylinders that had never been done before. Custom nitrous port injection, superchargers,
quad carbs and crazy turbo setups. Those were exciting times for a neon guy who had a year or so under his belt (I used to have another name over
there for my first year of membership but for the life of me I cannot remember what it was ).
I found a reason to swap out my SOHC for a 2.4 DOHC and made my own mounts ( they lowered the engine almost an inch so it would fit under the SOHC
hood!) and I can remember getting a lot of high fives for my accomplishment and the fact that I tackled it with a SOHC harness to begin with. Not to
mention I used the much larger stratus manifold at a time when they said it could not be done. Things were different back then.
Lately I have seen it grow stagnant, which really makes me sad. I tried injecting a few new ideas and got shot down pretty quick, which would not have
happened so quickly in the old days.
I am not a fan of membership levels for a forum. When Dan bought the eclipse I tried getting on a DSM forum that was set up like that and it was a
hassle to register and without paying I was signing up as a second class citizen from the start. That is not what neons.org needs at all. They have
enough of that as it is. It is sad to see.
I would like to see our site grow as a capitol for new neon owners and experienced alike full of ideas and experiments to bring new life to the car we
love. I see us becoming the number one Neon site in the world. We will do it by keeping it simple. We are all friends here. We are united by our cars
original design and our passion to create our individual work of art from it. We have to give new thoughts the chance to grow. Maybe the first attempt
at a new design will fail or sound stupid, but if we hold back the criticism and offer a solution something exciting will unfold.
I may be a dreamer, but I know I love my Neon and all the friends I have made because of it. I see big things for our little site. I hope each one of
you can help me create something special from xtremeneons.com.

I think neons.org is down the tubes. Nothing we can do about it. Honestly I can say good riddens. Right now it really sucks to try and do anything on
there. And everyone's just selling all their neon crap. I don't like it one bit.

well ill say this the org is a very useful place to get info. it actually changed my mind about my neon. but before it goes down maybe we should save
as much infromation as we can while we still have access to it not copy word for word but rewrite everything into how-to's and common problems and
symptoms and what needs to be done to fix. lots of work i know but if we would like to be the worlds best neon site it must be done.....
but look on the bright side if the org goes down more and more will come here.
ill say this i vist almost everyday just to see what new problems ppl have with thier neons just incase that same thing happens to me ill know how to
fix it
i lost my neon, but not the love!

I agree. I have talked to different guys who have done great how tos from the org and more than a few are going to be on here. The 2.4 and srt swap
how tos are from there with permission from the writers.
I visit there daily as well to scope out parts and if someone is getting torched for a new idea then I PM them an invite (sound familiar anyone?)

To be honest, I'm a registered member there. But since James recruited me here, I've only logged on maybe 2 times at the org. I found a lot of the
members to be rude and nasty when I had questions. I love this forum. I plan on staying here, and only here.
*1997 Plymouth Neon - Expresso DOHC, 5 speed, 2 door.
*Upgrades - Custom 3"Cold air intake, relocated battery (Trunk), liteGlow 7 Color LED's everywhere inside, custom sound system with two 12's
and speakers.
*Future plans - PLANS HAVE CHANGED! Thinking of starting in the top end, Head build with 16's, maybe even 18's, all titanium valves, springs,
etc. Already got a pretty good header, straight 2.25 pipe. Maybe 2.5" pipe soon with SRT4 exhaust.

Yeah tell me about it .. I been on there since like 16 ( PERMIT DIRVER ) lol but i had trouble couple of times .Ass holes just think they are better
then you or car. They just add stupid crap on there to your post. So i moved on to other sites. I go on neons.org if i REALLY need something or im
bored and look a some info lol.
but soon .org will go down because right now they charge ppl to do a dealer spot. I know a lot of sites that do that but i would never think neons.org
would. Now their asking for member ship prices ? lol wow . get out of
here.

Yup. No doubt. However, I'm in favor of publishing (yes, with real live paper) a how-to, archived, tips, tricks, and information BOOK on the neon.
The book Michael Carpenter helped write is a good start, and the neon FAQ book that Matt Wilks published is good too, but nothing concrete like a good
NEON book with tips and tricks and such. With disclaimers about responsibility and safety and such, of course.

I do too. I have always wanted to be part of a crew for a magazine. Tech articles, new tests, project cars.. And so that we don't focus only on neons
which aren't made anymore, we can do PT Cruisers, and Calibers also

Problem with the caliber is that it's gonna be a short run car. The SRT-4 version was a 3 year fluke. It's due to be replaced this year. Possibly
with a Fiat based Hornet. Word on da skreet is that it is supposed to have a super-charged 1.8L putting 172 hp at the crank.
But a magazine sounds like a great idea. Do an e-zine like Powerblock TV does. Print it, that's cool too. I'm in.
